Jazzy 88.9 WCSU Salutes Black History Month - Payne Theological Seminary

February is Black History Month and Jazzy 88.9 WCSU is paying tribute to the many African-Americans who have made a difference in the Miami Valley. Today we salute Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio which is one of the oldest seminaries in the United States.

Its origin can be traced back to the Ohio Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, which met in Columbus in 1844. Payne Theological Seminary was named after Daniel Payne, a bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal church faith, was the first president at Wilberforce University. Payne Theological Seminary was incorporated in 1894 as an independent institution for the purpose of promoting education, religion, and morality by the education of persons for the Christian Ministry. In 2009, the Arts Commission on Accreditation announced that Payne had been elevated to a 10-year accreditation cycle.

This Black History tribute is brought to you by your Miami Valley Jazz authority, Jazzy 88.9 WCSU.
